Paris! I’d been dreaming of this city since I was young, with a questionable sense of direction and an even more questionable taste in fashion. Finally, in this age (with a better sense of planning a trip), I managed to squeeze in a glorious 48 hours in the city of lights, love, and fashion. And mind you, it was worth every single kʀwaˈsɑ̃ (croissant) crumb.

You might be thinking, “Paris? Isn’t it full of snobbish waiters and overpriced pastries?” Well, maybe. But it’s also overflowing with charm and enough romantic vibes to make even the most pessimistic heart fluster. I could only imagine walking onto cobblestone streets, the Eiffel Tower sparking like a pillar full of disco lights, and enough art to make my head spin (in a good way, of course!).

So, what’s there to experience in the first place? Do we need to become a “flâneur” (aka professional wanderer) to feel the romantic vibe the city gives? I don’t think so.

Paris has this gothic architecture preserved so that you’d feel the love for art while strolling down streets. Getting lost in the maze of charming Parisian alleyways is like stumbling into the treasures of history.  Settling in those grand, middle-aged buildings are cozy cafes, not to mention that behind them could be hidden gardens begging to be discovered. Sipping café au lait while sitting on the courtyard bench feels like stepping into a romantic Netflix scene. If you’re more into budget-friendly adventure, you may skip those fancy restaurants with their tiny portions and head to a local market to feast on delicious cheeses, crusty bread, and enough pastries to make your dentist weep with joy.

I would not say Paris is impeccable. In fact, no city is perfect. The French capital has its quirks, from the occasional grumpy servers to protesters and tourist scammers, and even pigeons who seem to have personal vendetta against people with ice cream cones. But trust me, the good far outweighs the, shall we say, “character-building” experiences.

So, is Paris worth it? Absolutely, even if you only have a couple of days. Exploring the city is like being in a whirlwind of beauty, history, and’sweetness’ (referring to Tapisserie) that will leave you wanting more. All you need is a plan. With limited time, it is always important to prioritize the sights you absolutely can’t miss. If you’re into museums, buy your tickets online to avoid those soul-crushing lines. Embrace the Metro. It’s fast, efficient, and a great way to experience the city like a local. Paris truly comes alive at night, so don’t be bum and ditch the early bedtime. Enjoy a romantic cruise on the Seine, wander the illuminated streets, or simply find a cozy café and people-watch to your heart’s content.

Did I fall in love with Paris? Pardon me for being a ‘two-timer’ or maybe being polygamous; Japan is my first love. However, when we were heading to our next European city, I really felt like saying goodbye to a lover—bittersweet and full of longing. Our 48 hours in the city are full of memories that would stay with me long after I’ve returned home, fuelling my dreams of future and longer Parisian adventures.

So, pack your bags, grab that beret or that stylish long coat (if it’s winter), and get ready to fall head over heels for the city that has most reasons why you should, if not all.
