Happy New Year, fellow adventurers!

It’s officially 2025, and I’m starting the year with my first article—a somewhat bittersweet one. While I was working on ideas for the blog, I came across some news that, to be honest, dampened my travel-loving persona: the Philippine passport now ranks 75th in the World Passport power list of 2025. Ouch!

Now, for a Philippine passport holder with an ardent wanderlust, this news strikes deeply. I have always aspired to travel around the globe, immerse myself in several cultures, and feel the excitement of opening up fresh perspectives. With this current ranking, though, it seems those goals may require more patience and paperwork.

I’m planning a trip to Harbin and Seoul for the Chinese New Year. At this point, I can see myself drifting over Harbin’s Ice and Snow World in delight at the magnificent ice sculptures and savoring comforting bowls of authentic Chinese cuisine. In Seoul, I have imagined lively street markets, breathtaking temples, and the contagious enthusiasm of the big city. But first, I have to deal with the difficult task of getting visas for both countries before I could even start packing.

And, that’s where the irritation starts! I can’t help but feel jealous of my Singaporean friends with their strongest passports who can quickly book a flight to practically anywhere their hearts want, as I painstakingly compile records, schedule embassy visits, and anxiously await approvals.

But hey, I’m not the one who focuses on the negatives. So, let’s clearly handle this problem, analyze the consequences of this passport power decline, and keep those trip goals alive. Maybe, instead of saying our passport ranks 75th, we can always think the other way. We can visit 67 countries visa-free.

I firmly believe that there is always a positive aspect, even in the most challenging circumstances. And with this fall in our passport’s ranking? Nah! It’s just a minor hiccup, a huddle in the road on our path of world discovery. I am confident that the Philippine passport will rise to its rightful position among the world’s passport global index.

Imagine the sheer freedom of randomly booking a flight to wherever your heart calls for, free from the burden of visa applications. Driven just by wanderlust and an urge for fresh experiences, think of yourself jumping on a plane to that dream destination you have always wished to see. In the future, I see more Filipino tourists able to travel the globe, create relationships, share our rich culture, and leave a good impact on every continent. Our country is well-known for its resiliency, relentless energy, and contagious optimism. We will definitely get there!

I’m choosing to embrace the trip and each turn of things in the meantime. Indeed, visa applications can be a test of patience, a regulatory maze meant to test our abilities for planning. However, they also provide a great lesson in persistence and a reminder that sometimes the most fulfilling experiences call for some extra work. And let’s be honest: the excitement, the build-up, the knowing that we have conquered those difficulties makes the final arrival at our destination all the sweeter.

These difficulties provide a special chance for us to demonstrate our creativity as we grow to be experts in the visa application procedure. By sharing ideas and techniques with other travelers, we can establish a community that allows one another to navigate those administrative hurdles confidently. This experience will help us strengthen our will and enable us to become more passionate champions of the freedom to travel.
